The guiding principle of the design is to expand Irxleben into an exemplary, contemporary educational, cultural and sports centre as carefully as possible by reducing land consumption and surface sealing, preserving as many trees and buildings as possible and using materials in a resource-conscious manner.
The existing buildings in the south will be converted into a clubhouse and a pavilion. The listed building in the north will be renovated, made barrier-free and used as a neighbourhood meeting place. Two new buildings in the west create a new connecting street and enclose the new town square and the large nursery garden. Both the nursery and the festival hall are planned as hybrid timber buildings.
