1st Prize
with Happel Cornelisse Verhoeven, Rotterdam und Hild und K, Berlin
The Senate Department for Urban Development, Construction and Housing, in cooperation with Wohnungsbaugesellschaft Berlin Mitte mbH (WBM), organised the competition ‘Am Molkenmarkt Block B/1 Berlin Mitte’. Together with the firms Happel Cornelisse Verhoeven, Rotterdam, and Hild und K, Berlin, Modersohn & Freiesleben are now delighted to have won first place. The team impressed the jury with its design for the development of planning area (lot) 1.
The chairman of the jury, Prof. Dr. Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani, praised the selected and recommended projects (a total of three planning areas were covered) for their outstanding solutions to the task at hand: they "intelligently and creatively address the challenge of harmonising functional commercial spaces and, above all, attractive and affordable housing with metropolitan urban regeneration. They present innovative technical, economic, ecological, social and aesthetic solutions. The new part of the city that will be created here will fit seamlessly into Berlin's urban planning and architectural tradition, enriching it with fresh, contemporary ideas."
The competition designs are expected to be presented in a public exhibition starting in January 2026.
